North American Technician Excellence (NATE), the only industry-approved certification program for HVAC technicians, reported on a banner year in 2003. Among their accomplishments:NATE administered 16, 945 tests in 2003. There are now 15,000+ NATE-certified technicians nationwide, holding over 17,000 certifications. NATE has recorded six new public service announcements (PSAs) with Beverly DeJulio for contractor use in advertising and marketing. York Manufacturing is tying NATE certification in with the York LIBERTIES program. Contractors employing NATE-certified technicians and purchasing from York can qualify for significant rebates and discounts. For details of the program, contact York or York distributors. In OCTOBER 2003, the U.S. Army began awarding promotion points to NCO’s who hold NATE certification.
Omaha Public Power District released a CD of 30-second Public Service Announcements about NATE available for Contractors use in advertising. NATE’s online list of NATE-recognized training classes now totals over 280 separate courses which account for over 2000+ hours of training usable when recertifying. NATE’s Energy Efficiency test will be beta tested in March-April 2004. Four Hydronics tests will be readied for release.
